Does this sound like Laryngopharyngeal Reflux?
Post Body

Age: almost 40

Gender: female

Height: 5’5”

Weight: too much (working on this)

Medical Conditions: a very complex medical history but relevant diagnoses would include GERD, gastroparesis, intestinal dysmotility, hypotonia/muscle weakness including respiratory muscles caused by mitochondrial disease

Medications: so. many. meds. But the relevant ones would probably be Dexilant 60mg AM, Reglan 10mg with meals and bedtime, Zofran/Phenergan/Compazine PRN

A few months ago I developed completely new symptoms, and after a bit of research I think it most sounds like laryngopharyngeal reflux but a medical opinion would be super helpful, especially in knowing which specialist to bring these concerns to.

Randomly after eating or drinking I have started to cough, gag, and wretch. I am not nauseous during this time. It will progress or continue through repeatedly vomiting mucous. I almost never vomit food during these episodes, even if I have just eaten. These episodes usually start within 30minutes of eating or drinking. On a few occasions they have occurred during physical activity instead. While coughing and gagging, a sound that I can only describe as similar to water striking a surface or crashing on a shore can be heard from deep inside my chest.

The only thing that makes me wonder if this is indeed reflux is the fact that using my albuterol inhaler almost always immediately ends the episode. Because I have muscle weakness, I am at higher risk of aspiration but this doesn’t seem to fit that being the cause.

Any feedback on the potential diagnosis would be so appreciated. Thanks!
