Can an ulcer that was caused by NSAIDs return a year later even if you only take NSAIDs a couple of times?
Post Body

Age: 27

Sex: Female

Height: 5'6"

Weight: 191

Race: caucasian

Duration of complaint: two episodes in the last week

Location: Texas, USA, upper stomach/whole stomach

Current medications: CBD oil 1000mg/day (when I remember to take it) for anxiety

I have had some kind of tendonitis/De Quervain's in my right wrist since 2019 that I haven't seen anyone for yet. Between 11/2019 and 12/2019 I took prescription levels of ibuprofen for it like an idiot and gave myself a stomach ulcer. I took some chalky prescription things before meals for a couple weeks, ate a bland diet, and it eventually healed. I haven't had any issues since then until now. I have avoided NSAIDs like the plague except for taking prescription ibuprofen two or three times during c-section recovery in 09/2020. No issues then either.

But a few days ago I took ibuprofen because my back was hurting and I thought it might help over tylenol. A few hours later I started having the same burning, gnawing pain and nausea that I now associate with having an ulcer. It was bad and persistent enough that I laid down and forced myself to sleep to get through it. I had also eaten a tomato based dinner so I wonder if that plus the ibuprofen irritated my stomach.

That was Friday night. I haven't touched any ibuprofen since, but this morning I woke up with the same gnawing pain/nausea. However, it went away shortly after eating plain toast and yogurt and a small cup of cold brew with milk. I have been having one cup of coffee a day the past year but now I am going to try and wean off of it in case it's irritating my stomach or something.

Basically I am trying to find out if it's likely for an NSAID induced ulcer to come back, even if I have very rarely used NSAIDs since. I have never before the first ulcer had any issues so I don't believe I have peptic ulcer disease or anything.

I am also calorie counting right now at about 1800/day, so it could be possible it was just too much acid with ibuprofen the first time, and maybe nausea from hunger this morning? I've just come to feel completely terrified when I feel any stomach discomfort because the ulcer was the worst pain I've ever had and I spent most of the first two weeks vomiting up everything I ate while crying.

I would be really grateful for any insight. Thank you.
