First time at the dentist and going for an extraction because of a broken tooth. What can I expect or do to prepare?
Post Body

I’m a 19f and 62kg. I’m not sure if this could be asked here, but I’ll still give it a shot. Roughly 8 years ago due to a mistake made by my friend with a candy she gave me I got a crack in my tooth. My first molar in my upper jaw to be exact. Over a period of a few years the tooth chipped away and now there’s just a space in my gum where it used to be. There’s what feels like a hole and a jagged end that is connected to the rest of the tooth still up inside my gum. I’ve never had any issues with that part of my mouth. I’ve always kept it clean and watched what I ate to avoid getting food stuck as well as rinsed my mouth after every meal or drink.

Two days ago my 9 year old sister baked some cookies and they were strong enough to be compared to a brick (it even cut my finger as I tried to break it). Not wanting to hurt her feelings I took a bite and it wasn’t so pleasant. Tougher than a block of ice. I was left with a major toothache at the site of my broken tooth and a bit of swelling. In case you’re wondering why I didn’t chew the cookie on the other side, I have a crack in my bottom molar as a result of what I assume is a cavity so I dint want to risk worsening it. I went to the clinic and was prescribed ibuprofen and paracetamol for the pain. Next week I’m supposed to go in to have my mouth examined and get the remainder of the tooth removed. I’m embarrassed to say, I’ve never seen a dentist in my life. My parents put it off dozens of times even when my face was swollen from an inflamed wisdom tooth. Needless to say, I have no clue what to expect. What are the procedures and how do I care for my mouth afterwards? Would I be able to talk? Does it hurt a lot? Would I be put to sleep? How long would the procedure be? I’m on the antidepressants Paxil, would that affect anything? I’m supposed to have a therapy session the next morning and I’m not sure if my appointment would need to be postponed or not. Sorry if this doesn’t belong here or I’m asking too many questions. I’d just like a bit of advice :)
