Hi all, I am currently using a treatment for my acne called Azelaic Acid (20%).
I am concerned that it might be causing some side effects in me such as loss of libido, abililty to get an erection and general low mood.
I know that the cream is a DHT blocker and although it is applied to the skin, it seems it can be absorbed into the bloodstream and become systemic aswell. I worry that is impacting my hormones (levels of DHT) internally. And apparently this is the side effects of DHT blockers.
I found this article that says that absorption of topically applied azelaic acid is 3.6% of the total dose. It also shows 2.2% excretion in the urine.

I don't really know what this means. Is that enough to actually impact hormones? Even if the azelaic acid is absorbed, does it actually have any impact?
I am kind freaking out about this and I don't know whether the side effects are real or in my head/due to anxiety. It just seems crazy to me that a cream I apply on my face could impact me internally, but could it?
Thanks
