Reconstructive bowel surgery recovery tips? 18F
Post Body

I am 18F, 5 foot 3, and weigh approx 145-50 lbs (although I lost some due to not eating for several days)

I got into a car accident recently, and although the seatbelt saved my life, it also tore up my insides.

So yesterday I just got back from the ICU. I spent six days there and got reconstructive surgery on my bowels and digestive system (tear in my colon, intestine repair)

they stapled me up so now I look like Frankenstein without needing a Halloween costume haha!

anyways, I am currently recovering, they let me go yesterday after I made some incredibly small bowel movements for the first time when they gave me two suppositories, but I'm still taking laxatives just in case. I literally forgot how to go number 2 if I'm honest.

I'm just SUPER nervous about my bowel movements. even before the hospital, I didn't make a lot of movements, I usually do make one every few days. Also, I'm just scared that even though I'm eating it won't process. I am passing a lot of gas, and drinking water, and walking around, just like PT told me to. I just don't know what to do. I'm scared it will hurt once a bigger bowel movement happens too.

It's hard to eat large amounts of food and I can literally feel it as it goes into my body, it's kinda scary.

Does anyone have any tips for recovery? I've been taking meds as directed, changing the dressing, doing the basic things but I'm also scared I won't have another bowel movement for a few days or that it will hurt when I finally go again. I just started eating regular foods for the past 3 days so maybe I'm overreacting but I'm going to a follow-up soon.
