So I'm in India at the moment and 48 hours ago my partner was nipped by a dog whilst on a Goan beach. This happened when she went to stroke the dog whilst it was eating and it got defensive. The bite was not deep at all (no blood drawn and the tiniest mark/dent after) also the dog was one of the pets from the restaurant we were at so it's likely it was vaccinated against rabies. After the dog bite she sucked the wound and spat out after being mistakenly told by a friend this is what you are meant to do however from reading online this sounds like one of the worst things we could've done. We believe that the chance of rabies here is very low as Goa is almost declared a rabies free state in India however we can't help worrying about it.
Bite was on the hand at the base of the index finger

We have had pre exposure jabs and we are now wondering whether there is still time to get treatment from a hospital or if it is too late. Also if anyone has any experience with rabies please let us know whether transmission sounds likely or not. Many thanks
