I am looking for a solution for my terribly stubborn father. He is in his late 60s, slightly under 300 pounds, 6’6” in his prime, and has degenerative arthritis. He has had his hip and knee replaced in hopes of walking better. Docs determined the problem was his ankles. The only solution given has been to place a rod by his ankle. Requires 6 mos recovery. Not much of an option since my mother passed this year.
He wears ankle braces that help a lot. But most shoes cause his ankle to roll even with the braces on. He’s always ordered 14eee from Mason’s shoes and they have worked well. However the new models of these shoes aren’t wide enough. I purchased Sketchers 14e for him. They were plenty wide and fit well. However, his foot rolled immediately when standing. We feel like it might be the height of the heel plus memory foam causing it to be too high.
Any solutions we can try? I’m terrified he will become too crippled to walk.
