Making this post on behalf of my 18F girlfriend who has been bleeding down below for 95% of the last 2 years (We have been together a little over a year). She has the Nexplanon implant and doesnât take any other prescription medications.
Our best guess is that for whatever reason her body isnât agreeing with the hormones from the implant for whatever reason, which is the cause of the extended bleeding.
I have been asking her to go to the gynecologist for as long as I can remember, since I think whatever is going on there canât be healthy. She is incredibly fearful that they will make her get a traditional IUD instead, and she is very uncomfortable with the thought of this procedure.
Another thing to note is for some reason she has been led to believe that she wouldnât be allowed any pain killers, sedatives, or local anesthetic during the procedure if she were to get it done. I told her it seems like they would be able to make accommodations to keep her comfortable during what definitely is an invasive procedure.
To wrap it up, we are just looking for some insight on if any of you have had/seen a similar situation to the one my girlfriend is having, and if she does need to switch birth control methods, are there any other options of this âimplantânature besides a traditional or copper iud.
