Hi Doctors,
I am a 29-year-old male, 5'7", 77 kg, and recently started running every afternoon as part of my effort to adopt healthier habits. However, since late October, I’ve been experiencing symptoms that make me suspect a urinary tract infection (UTI).
Here’s a summary of my situation:
- Urinalysis Results:
- 1st test: 0–1 pus cells.
- 2nd test: 1–3 pus cells (I was dehydrated at the time).
- I am currently waiting for the results of a third urinalysis from another clinic.
- Symptoms:
- Mild sensations or discomfort when urinating or holding my pee (not outright painful, but noticeable).
- These sensations occur more when I’m anticipating urination or holding it for a while.
- Inconsistent urine flow: Sometimes it’s normal; other times, I need to concentrate or imagine a stream to start urinating.
- The discomfort is localized to the penis (unsure of the specific part).
- These symptoms tend to worsen in colder climates, a pattern I’ve noticed since childhood (I used to hold my pee a lot when I was younger).
- Additional Observations:
- I sometimes fall asleep in my workout clothes after jogging, which might contribute to hygiene issues.
- I masturbate daily but have stopped recently due to feeling anxious about my symptoms and to help ease my mind while trying to heal.
- I can still work and exercise without any issues or limitations despite these symptoms.
- I have no fever, and my complete blood count (CBC) showed no signs of infection during my recent annual exam.
- I have never been sexually active.
- Past Consultations:
- I’ve seen a few doctors about this. One male doctor suspected UTI and prescribed Cephalexin (2x daily for 7–10 days), but I haven’t tried it yet.
- The only remedies I’ve used so far are water therapy and drinking coconut water.
- I also had a full abdominal ultrasound (kidneys, prostate, and other organs), which came back normal.
I’m reaching out because I’m still experiencing these sensations and inconsistencies. Could it be related to my hygiene, dehydration, or another underlying issue? I also find it a bit challenging to explain these sensations to female doctors, as our anatomies differ.
Thank you for your time and guidance!
