Post Body

My daughter is 13 months old. When she was 1 month old, she began having fevers that we were unable to break. She was cath'd several times and never had a UTI. Her pediatrician then sent us for bloodwork.

At that time her RBC were low, hemoglobin was low, platelets were high, granulocytes were low, monocytes were high. Dr told us that she just had a "high baseline temp".

She then began getting unexplainable bruises and her temp remained elevated. (2 months later at this point) This time the bloodwork showed hematocrit low, platelets high, monocytes high, nucleated RBC high. She was diagnosed with spontaneous ecchymoses.

Fast forward to 3 weeks ago- she had a very large unexplainable bruise on her rib cage that concerned me. I called and got her in to her new pediatrician (we moved). Pediatrician agreed that she was concerned and ordered labs. At that time D Dimer was high (716 (ref 0-500)), sodium low, BUN high, creatinine low, bilirubin low, ferritin low, iron low, transferrin low, iron sat low, MCH high, platelets low (67).

Last week we went to a hematologist, she did a CBC in office and lymphocytes high, granulocytes low, monocytes high, platelets high, MPV low. Hematologist said platelets were up and she didn't "look sick" so keep her updated if anything changed.

I do not feel comfortable with this and am terrified that something is seriously wrong with her. We have requested a referral to CHOA and are waiting to hear from them. Is there anything specific I need to request be ordered? Are these lab fluctuations truly normal?
