Strep c on throat culture
Post Body

32 m. Caucasian. 5’11. 225 lbs. Non smoker, non drinker. No medications/medical history.

Went to the emergency department two weeks ago with sore throat, fatigue. They did a throat swab, and it came back positive for strep group c. I was started on pen v k 300mg four times a day for 10 days. My symptoms improved.

Doctor wanted to do another throat swab. So it was done at my local Ontario lifelabs.

The throat swab this time came back saying no strep group a identified.

My question is: do they only test for strep a at some places? If I still had the strep c bacteria, would it have been identified?

Thanks!
