I'm a 23 year old male. Two months ago, I had my blood drawn for a routine checkup. Due to some slightly high hemoglobin counts, my PCP referred me to an oncologist who scheduled me for another blood test which will happen tomorrow. The oncologist told me they're watching out for a possible illness that involves blood/bone marrow called polycythemia vera. They said the chances are very very small but they want to rule it out. They told me to get more water into my system and to stop vaping as much, which I've made a concerted effort to do. (I only vape for cannabis use and I am working on switching to edibles, I swear).
Lately, I've been getting more and more concerned that this is something I really do have. I know I shouldn't Google symptoms, but the symptoms are noticable. I bleed from my gums twice a day when I brush my teeth and my mouth slightly tastes like blood when I wake up in the morning. I also have random itches after hot showers and get dizzy in the morning sometimes. Especially concerning is an issue with my bowel movements. I have had hemorrhoids the last couple of years which initially didn't concern me too much. Both my parents have hemorrhoids and are in their 60s. I have friends with hemorrhoids too. I assumed it's normal to have bloody stool from time to time.
That said, the last week has been kind of scary. There's been very liquidy blood in most bowel movements and it's terrifying me, especially considering the potential illness is linked to the blood. I'm so, so scared. But I also need to be realistic that it could be something I'm dealing with. Can anyone give me some insight into the disease/my chances of having it/dangers if I do?
