60 yo overall healthy male; weight/height proportionate. Meds include very low metoprolol, atorvastatin 10 mg daily. Nearly all other labs within range.
For last 6 months my potassium has increased, slowly, from 5.4 last December, to 6.0 as of 2 weeks ago. Primary care referring me to Endo to have my adrenals checked out, he is at a loss.
I did inform him I have been consuming a high potassium diet (daily avocado), salmon with skin at least 2-3/week, nuts, veggies and fruits (eg cantalope, mangoes).I do take a bunch of supplements (lipoic acid, lecithin, quercetin, individual vitamins), but none that should increase K, unless they are contaminated
Any thoughts on what it might be from? He does not believe it is dietary or the beta blocker only.
Thanks!!
July 16 UPDATE:
Yesterdays metabolic panel (btw this one was not fasting as were all the others): K came down to 5.4(thank goodness), but now sodium and chloride also slightly decreased; most likely due to the HCTZX 12.mg every other day my primary care prescribed. Hoping for the best with the endo. Thank you ALL
July 21 Update:
Saw an Endo today by coincidence she noticed a cortisol level i had drawn last December and it was normal, she then ruled out many issues and thought it was unlikely adrenal related/hormonal; nonetheless she recommended I see a nephrologist. More to follow Thanks again
