Stats: 32 year old adult male, 5'11, 180lbs, no pre-existing health conditions and not taking any sort of frequent medications beyond what my primary doc prescribed this week.
For 2 weeks now I've been experiencing a strange combo of symptoms that I believe to be the result of a mosquito bite/virus/infectious disease I've contracted while I was visiting my family in Mexico. The trip was from 6/9-6/16, i first noticed the bite on Tuesday 6/13, I felt a bit generally woozy after i noticed it and felt mildly fatigued through the rest of the week but didn't begin having notable symptoms till Friday 6/16 when I returned.
I've been to the emergency room twice (6/16 and 6/24) when I've felt symptoms were unbearable and seen my primary doctor this week (6/27) who only was able to guess that I have a sinus infection and gave me Cetirizine 10mg tablets to take for two weeks and taking ibuprofin as needed when I feel like my symptoms flare up.
My ER visits both confirmed that my heart/blood flow/nutrition from blood panel are all normal and functioning as they should be. I was also tested for malaria, covid, influenza, HIV, RSV and nothing else came back concerning.
Below are my symptoms that seem to be coming in cycles. The ER nurse predicted it could be Zika virus but they weren't able to test for that. She also said it was odd because through this I've never had a fever, cough, runny nose or other more pronounced symptoms or viral infections, my body just seems to be fighting something but functioning normally otherwise,
A nursing friend of mine said it sounds like there might be something that could be developing with how my immune system is reacting but its hard to say since I've still not been given any testing that's shown up positive to confirm what I contracted. She'd mentioned encephalitis but said to take it with a grain of salt and I know her guess google = nothing till a doctor officially says but I had a bad episode of symptoms last night and have not been feeling good today so I'm desperate for insight. Please help me if you can r/askdocs
Key symptoms:
irregular numb/sore/tight feeling on the right side of my body that comes and goes (it's not a circulation issue, ER doctors have confirmed that my blood flow and heart are functioning normally)
head/neck/ear clogged/stuffiness on the right side with slightly higher than normal ear ringing sensation (it feels less like sinus pressure and honestly more like im having some type of allergic reaction, there's never swelling but that's what it almost feels like its happening)
similar tightness in chest area (already confirmed as well on an ER visit that i'm showing no risk for stroke or heart attack)
urine is normal and frequent due to drinking extra water the past two weeks no blood or pain
stool is typically once a day but there were days over the last two weeks where I had diarrhea/very soft stool that felt a bit burning as it came out, no odd colors, maybe every other day, haven't had it since thursday, diet has been normal and have been eating 3 meals a day
- mental disorientation/feelings of being high/not sober/under the influence of something/feeling anxiety attacks and that I can't stop thinking that I will die - while all the above are frustrating, this is the hardest to deal with, it feels like when I have a symptom episode, that I'm not sober, I haven't had weed in months and don't at all drink that much these days but I had one or two bad weed trips in the past and I remember the way those would trigger crazy anxiety spikes for me, that's what it feels like here, like someones given me drugs, my ears start ringing and my reality feels altered, i can still walk, breath, talk, move and function normal, it never feels like anything completely shuts down but it feels like I have to just wait to come down from what ever terrible high/chemicals my body seems to be releasing to my brain and its honestly getting harder and harder to deal with as episodes persist. When my right side gives me that faux numb/tense feeling I would almost liken it to when I've been given novocaine at the dentists. Things are functioning and circulating but similarly slowing down.
I'm not questioning the legitimacy of my doctors but I still don't know what it is that my body is fighting and the cyclical nature of my symptoms continues to have me worried I'd like more insight if possible because I'd hate to just "wait" to get better and find out I should have had someone take care of something specific months ago.
I reached out to my doctor yesterday and left a message asking to be referred to an infectious disease specialist because I honestly don't feel like this is getting better, even if that's a dead end or I do recover sooner than later, I'd at least rather know for peace of mind and I'm praying she helps me out because the days I've episodes are not getting any easier to manage.
