TL/DR:Yesterday I burned my esophagus with Dante’s seventh level mashed potatoes, now in pain and struggling to swallow anything. Recommendations?
Yesterday evening I made a stupid mistake and injured myself with dinner. I took a spoonful of mashed potatoes with cheese melted on top that had been boiling around the edges just a minute before and as soon as it hit my throat it started burning. Out of instinct I swallowed it, but the melted cheese caused it to get a little ways down where I could not force it down or up. Finally it went down but the pain was intense even after chugging cold water.
Fast forward to today and swallowing my spit hurts. Burping hurts a lot. It aches just behind my chest wall out halfway down and at joining of stomach at rest but intensifies when swallowing anything. I technically can drink cold beverages, but they hurt and feel like they get stuck partway down and then trickle through. Solid food isn’t possible - I have eaten one yogurt cup and some mashed up spaghetti-os since the potatoes from Hades. Taking my medication this morning they also became stuck and I could not bring them up or force them down. I drank as much water as I could and they just sat there until they dissolved.
My primary doctor did not see me in person but is calling in steroids and magic mouthwash/GI cocktail for me. Also recommended liquid Carafate. Does that seem appropriate? Any recommendations (besides finding some common sense)?
