Hit my knee on dance pole, extremely concerned, please offer advice
Post Body

25, F, 5’2, 120lbs

I hit the top part of my knee/knee cap on a acrobatic pole yesterday while doing an acrobatic trick. It was very painful, enough for me to lay there for a few minutes and force myself take deep breaths, instant tears cause of the pain. I have a video.

It’s swollen and painful to bend/ walk but I’m doing my best to walk normally so it doesn’t get stiff. I feel a very slight crunchiness when bending and moving knee cap with my hand. I cannot body weight squat without pain. It’s definitely puffy, hard to see clearly in photo.

What I’ve been doing: •Ice 20ish minutes 2-3 times yesterday, once today so far •Light mobility (bending and straightening, ankle circles) •Elevation •Compression sleeve •light walking

I read swelling is a huge red flag. Is it possible it’s just a bruise? I had ACL surgery 10 years ago but this wasn’t the same, it did not twist and my foot wasn’t on the floor when it happened, it was just a literal knee to the pole impact. Video below.

I want to see a doctor, but in the meantime, any idea what could be going on?

Please give me your thoughts / what could possibly be going on and how to take care of it until I can get in to see an ortho, is ibuprofen ok? Ice? Heat?
