I'm not even sure this goes in the icing section, my apologies if it doesn't.
I need to coat a cake with whipped frosting. The guest of honor wants the kind of whipped frosting that's on grocery store cakes. Can I buy that, or should I make it? Do I need a crumb coat of buttercream? She really doesn't like buttercream, so I'd rather not to use it unless would be problematic not to. She doesn't want filling, so can I use whipped frosting in between the cakes?
Can I use a small offset spatula to keep the frosting from being smooth, like I can with buttercream?
