Chocolate chips vs bar

Post Body

Hey everyone, I’ve recently been baking (and cooking) more and whenever a recipe calls for chocolate chips, I simply put in chocolate chip sized chunks of dark chocolate instead. It’s much cheaper and you can replace it in a 1:1 ratio of weight. Not sure about cups I don’t like working in volume for non liquids but let me know I’m curious now. Anyway, I think this has been working fine so far in the brownies and cookies I’ve made. Yesterday I wanted to put some chunks as toppings on my cupcakes but my girlfriend said not to as chocolate burns at about 50C. I decided to follow her advice as she’s a much better baker than I am but now I’m curious since I haven’t noticed a difference when using chunks instead.

So ultimately the question I want to get at is does it make a difference at all to use chunks instead of chips?

Callback to my volume side tangent; does anyone know a good recipe site that uses grams and ml? Or even better a good conversion omnibus site so I can still use the recipe I find online with a little work instead of a lot where I have to check 5 different sites with different answers?
