How do we know about social structure in the stone age?
Post Body
Recently I was reading about the changes from the Paleolithic Era to the Neolithic, and I read that humanity developed gender roles (hunting and gathering becoming sex specific), a patriarchal society and marriage customs.
How do we know this? There's no writing, so I assume it's some kind of physical evidence, but I can't imagine what could show any of this. Or is this all a myth?
(I originally asked on Askhistorians and they sent me here)
Edit: originally said paleozoic by accident.
