I want to apologize in advance if some of the language I am using is outdated; I am open to learning, so please let me know if I am misphrasing something.
I have been reading about “Eurafricans”, an umbrella-term used by George E. Brooks to refer to Luso-Africans, Franco-Africans, and Anglo-Africans who were born from the common-law marriages between European traders and West African women from the sixteenth to the eighteenth centuries. I have seen similar groups referred to as Atlantic Creoles, and I suppose the North American Métis could be included too?
Reading about the end of the Pomor trade and the extinction of Russenorsk, a pidgin language combining elements of Russian with Norwegian made me wonder if, while the proportion of interethnic marriages in Europe and America seems to be rising, mixed societies are disappearing as the circumstances that gave rise to them are replaced by near-instantaneous communication, translation services, and faster transportation.
