American here - 've been watching Australian A League football recently and noticed some of the teams compete in dual use stadiums with barely 30% capacity in some cases - which looks really poor on TV and makes for a quiet atmosphere. There needs to be a push to build football specific stadiums, much smaller in size, to develop a proper atmosphere at these matches. The Australians I've spoken to on here say that the government doesn't value football and therefore has no interest in supporting the costs associated with building such stadiums. Is that generally true?
My question is - which sport in Australia is in the most need of massive investment to take it to the next level? I've been very impressed with Australian basketball, which is among the best in the world these days - not so much with football, which produces occasional class players but overall is underwhelming. Is there a sport that deserves more funding? What do you think?
