Apparently taking razor blades through a woolies self checkout now requires clerk attention and a birthday check.
Well, an ID check, but woolies employees remain sternly unfucked, as is their right, duty, and calling.
So what's this all about? Was there an announcement somewhere? A new law? New store policy? Was there a recent incident involving a child and a gillette branded macuahuitl? Are they tossing them around at playgrounds like ninja stars? Is there a single goddamn thread of justification?
It doesn't even make sense. Teens need to fucking shave don't they? Schools have rules that force them to. It's not more dangerous to a child. It's not more dangerous in the hands of a child. Not when compared to a particularly stupid adult, which, judging by whoever made this policy, we have no shortage of. It's a bit of fucking metal, they might as well ban bic pens.
All else aside, any kid capable of conducting razor blade related mischief would just pocket the bloody things anyway. Who did this, what is their end goal and how can we stop them from doing anything ever?
EDIT: aight i get it, it's been a thing forever where you are. Despite our population size the country's slightly bigger than a backyard and different parts of it have different policies.
EDIT 2, ELECTRIC BOOGALOO: So there is a mental health angle to this that's decently understandable. A razor blade is probably a kid's only affordable option were they are looking to harm themselves. I am satisfied, somewhat. probably gonna buy more at a time to save myself some trouble then.
I work in mental health. It’s actually because the levels of self-harm increasing so rapidly and razor blades were the most common method for underage people to access cheaply. So it might be an inconvenience but you are helping save someone’s life (it literally has been the barrier for two of my clients)
