I am international in Australia, particularly from Japan. Since I live in Melbourne, I joined a Japanese community group on FB. More than 10 posts are posted everyday. The concept is “support each other“ in this unfamiliar place. This group is mixed with local Japanese and international Japanese ( mostly working visa holders or exchange students). Majority is international. I would say 80%. However, due to of so many ins and outs, plus huge inflation has been hitting, people in the group started monetising things. For example, brokerage fee will be applied if someone introduced jobs from their workplace and if you got hired, or 50 dollars is charged to hire someone to make you brave enough to drop off your resume and so on. I feel sad about this situation but on the other hand, I know how challenging living in Melbourne is. Is this happening to local communities or other international communities? Kindness is becoming business.
