Hello, Aussies! Reaching out as an American here who has interest in personal finance and international financial systems alike.
Curious what your thoughts are on your superannuation program? Since I'm asking you about your plan, I won't ramble on the US retirement system, but I'll note that our 401(k) investment program isn't the success that was anticipated a generation ago by its creators. This is largely because the programs are optional and many employers don't contribute to the plans (or contribute very little).
I see the benefits of Super by essentially mandating retirement investment. I also can see the flip side of the frustration of having so many dollars going toward a plan you can't touch until retirement, when you may need some of those dollars now.
Any and all insight is appreciated. Thank you!
