Should firefighters, nurses and other public workers get at least 6 figures because of their impact on society? Why or why not?
Post Body

There's been a lot of talk about strikes with nurses, fire fighters etc, but that's got me thinking. Do you all think they should be on higher salaries? (Say 120K, 130K)? Paramedics make 75K a year in NSW. That is slightly lower than the average salary of 82K a year in NSW.

Firefighters and ambulance workers save so many lives. Ambulance workers get PTSD, sometimes they get attacked. Firefighters deal with hazardous materials and even sometimes save lives in the process. They also save homes and many businesses.

Teachers help to educate the next future generation, yet many don't even get 100K salary.

it is a bit of a polarising thing as some people say:

A: "You chose this job because you knew the pay wasn't great because you wanted to make an impact and not just help companies profit". If you wanted 130K a year salary, you would do surgery or be a lawyers.
B: This is the government, they can't afford all ambulance and nurses getting 120K or 110K a year.
C: If it weren't for some of these people, maybe you wouldn't be a doctor or well educated enough to get a high paying job. These guys/girls totally deserve 110K a year or 120K.
D: This is the public sector. The public sector is not for profit and therefore cannot afford such generous salaries. They'd have to reduce the number of workers in the end like Victoria.
