Why do so many Aussies like to suntan to the point where they're all red?

I mean we all know that we have one of the highest rates of cancer. We know that suntanning is bad. Cancer really is no joke though.
Thing is, a lot of people seem to not care? They suntan until their skin is full warm and glowing red.
Data from the government health site says: Almost 1 in 3 young Australians (31%) believe it’s fine to suntan. Two in 3 Australians will be diagnosed with skin cancer in their lifetime.
