I made a post asking people if the taxes in their state are well spent and a user from Maryland complained about corruption and poorly maintained infrastructure in his state.
I have fucking stories about Louisiana. My partner is from New Orleans.
I wish I could find the video , if I find it again Iโll post it. But Louisiana has gone whole hog into trickle down economics which leads to one of the greatest economic disparities for its people. Louisiana sees billions of not trillions of money come through via the petrochemical companies operating out of it.
However, these companies barely, if at all, pay any tax. There was an example given where there was a zip code, not a full city or town, just a zip code, saw ~$2-3b of economic throughput annually but because there is no tax paid by the major companies operating out of it, tax burdens fell on the residents. Meaning public services operate in a very diminished capacity and the average resident only makes an average of $27k annually
The state is so poorly managed and strapped for cash, itโs taken to suing former college students to force them into paying loans that were initial under a federal forbearance due to Covid. I know, because my partner got a packet in the mail last Christmas.
