Doing the Lord's/God's Work?

saw a video today where an american complimented another guy by saying "you guys are doing the Lord's work". the phrase obviously means you're doing hell of a good job. but I was taken aback by how random and also kind of fun it sounds. What are the general terms for phrases like this and how can I learn more about phrases that's similar to this

At least among younger people, there's a few that are becoming popular. One I know is NPC (non-player character) which in a video game is a side character that's not controlled by the player. As an idiom, it refers to a random person who seems like they're programmed and not a real person. Buffed is another one, which in a video game means that the game was edited to make something better, and has a similar meaning as an idiom
