To clear things up, the National Park Service (NPS) manages over 400 sites throughout the country, of which 63 are considered (capitalized) National Parks. They get a lot of the attention, but there's some others that range from wilderness areas to battlefields to beach shores that show the nature and history of our country.
Bandelier is incredible. I've been twice and it's such a fun and fascinating place to explore.
On my quest to visit all 50 states, I guess I can technically check off NJ because I went to the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island, but my personal list requires me to have a beer while I'm there, so I can't check off New Jersey just yet
That's super interesting! I've seen the map of the NY/NJ state line on Ellis Island, but never knew why each state had each part, with the NY border seeming super random. Thanks for the history lesson!
I'm really hoping to take a roadtrip from SLC to western South Dakota soon, but Scotts Bluff is definitely on my list to check out as part of the roadtrip
Yeah, itβs pretty amazing out here, but besides family and friends, the Great Lakes are what I miss the most about the Midwest
My sister lived in Cape Girardeau for a year and I really wanted to go visit but I never got the chance
Yes I forgot Point Reyes but I went when I visited friend in Petaluma a few years ago. It was foggy as hell so I didn't see much, but it's such a cool place
Bandelier is incredible. I've been twice and it's such a fun and fascinating place to explore. I'll have to check out Valles Caldera the next time I'm in Santa Fe
Some that I've really loved are Dinosaur National Monument, Golden Spike National Historic Site, Fort Davis National Historic Site, Padre Island National Seashore, Lava Beds National Monument, Chickasaw National Recreation Area, Colorado National Monument, Bandelier National Monument, and Cumberland Island National Seashore
