Provinces of Pennsylvania and Maryland among others were established by the British as proprietary colonies. How different did that system of governance make them from the rest?

From what I can gather the lord proprietor was basically a king/count of sort, it seems it was even hereditary in practice with dynasties of Penn and Baltimore. I wonder if any of that makes the culture of these places nowadays any different from places that were charter colonies or crown colonies. Or did it make a difference in the daily lifes back in the day
