Exploring American phone etiquette. Why do most Americans not say goodbye?

I work at a call centre in Canada, which deals with both Canadian and American clients. The Canadian clients generally behave in the same way that I have been raised around - they will always say "bye, have a good day" at the end of the phone call.

However, the vast majority of Americans don't do that. They hang up immediately after I bid them goodbye.

Is there a particular reason that this could be the case? I would be curious to know! I have noticed plenty of other phone etiquette differences which intrigue me, but I am specifically interested on this one right now.
