People of recent or fully assimilated immigrant families. How did they describe ameirica?

Well I know theirs still people trying to get over here. But I also know a lot of white people came from europe through those giant boats. That housed a lot of people. Probably bad conditions as well.
Did the families describe it as "Disneyland were the free can become free!" or something more normal as "well beats living in a country in constant warfare" It is a pretty young nation. A lot of people also probably written their expirence. So im wondering what they said about ameirica.
