What if the U.S. had its own state-run version or a similar version of radio and television like BBC, CBC, NHK, KBS, TBS or NRK?

Post Body
I know this is a question that most of you don't like from the start because of the question I am asking.
But I would like to explore this scenario as it might happen if PBS and NPR would participate or be left out of this.
So I propose 4 main scenarios:
- An independent agency is created similar to USAGM, but for profit similar to BBC, CBC or similar.
- Create an independent non-profit agency similar to CPB with participation of NPR, PBS and CPB.
- A quasi-official agency is created and will be supported by CPB.
- A company is created with state participation, but also NPR and PBS will have participation.
Is this idea doomed from the start or can it prosper?
