Do you have to be really brilliant and passionate about your field to excel in academia?

Post Body

So the thing is, I have always loved the process of studying and learning new things but I have never had that burning flame or passion for any one particular subject or field. I don't know if it is a strength or weakness but I pretty much enjoy studying anything. I was somehow pushed into STEM and I was like ehh whatever and I do enjoy my work very much, but I was never the science kid growing up or even now. I am pretty sure if I pursued humanities I would enjoy it just as much. Basically, it's the process of studying and research that I enjoy regardless of the subject, but I do not get excited over anything. I have always figured I would join academia because I like research but now I am wondering if I really have what it takes.
