Would it be inappropriate to ask a former lecturer for work experience?

Hi all, an old lecturer from my first year at uni (I’m currently going into my third) is now working at a small company I’ve been interested in for a while. It’s in the arts industry so everything is kind of ‘you’re network is your net worth’ but I don’t know if it would be too strange/presumptuous to ask him for help/a placement/work experience nor do I want to make a bad name for myself…

We had a decent relationship when he taught me and seemed to like me well enough but I would still like a second opinion on whether reaching out is a bad idea lol. Any advice would be appreciated!
