'Reader' title in the UK
Post Body

I've seen conflicting opinions on is - would you consider Reader in UK equivalent to Associate Professor or a full professor in the US system?

I'm consider to apply for promotion and have (confusingly) options to apply to be promoting to Reader or Professor. Judging from the promotion criteria my chance in both don't seen to differ significantly. And the pay should also be the same.

I'm inclined to apply for full professor because of the name in case I'm moving outside UK. But a senior colleague thought Reader would be a more natural step.

Appreciate any thoughts on this. Thanks.
