Research Letter Vs. Case Report

I am relatively new to the research field and I have been having trouble determining how to format one of my projects. I am basically between submitting a research letter vs a case report. Do one of these options carry more weight than the other? Also what aspects would distinguish if a case is better for a case report vs research letter?
Additionally if anyone has good learning material suggestions for manuscript writing/statistical learning and data analysis for beginners please let me know!
