Why are Ossetians the only predominantly Christian people in the North Caucasus?

I know that Georgians and Armenians are also basically Christians, but their homelands are located in the South Caucasus, while most Ossetians are distributed in the North Caucasus, with a small number in the South Caucasus. They are also the only Christian ethnic group that mainly speaks Iranian dialects. Are there any historical reasons for this?
