General seminary life questions
Post Body

Im currently a college senior, and trying to decide what Im going to do next with my life.

I did alot of discernment during my senior year of high school. I got to spend a weekend with some seminarians and discussed a lot of good things that helped answer questions I had.

Ultimately I decided to wait, as all my praying looked like it was pointing towards that. I’ve prayed recently for a minute on this, and am trying to decipher the lords message.

I would ask my parish priest but unfortunately he’s out and I can’t reach out to him.

The closest seminary to me is several hours away, and who knows where I could be sent.

I know you don’t get a lot of free time, but how restricted is what you can do?

What normal everyday things can you not do while in seminary? Like watching the or going to the movies or something.

Lastly, and the thing I’m worried the most about, is making friends. There probably isn’t hat many guys at seminary at a time right? What if you just don’t click with any of them? My discernment has had me meet some pretty weird people. I know priests can have hobbies and be normal people, but I don’t want my entire identity to be my job.

Obviously God and the church would define my life quite a bit but I know my priest has hobbies and a life, and I don’t want everything I do to be centered around the same thing. I know that sounds horrible but it’s he only way I can phrase it.

Call it a fear of burnout or something, I don’t know.
