Extent of my duty to protect a stolen host?
Post Body

Fr's - Wondering to what extent I, as a layperson, should go in order to protect and/or recover a host that has been stolen during the Eucharistic celebration. Let's take a hypothetical situation where a priest observes someone steal a host. The priest attempts to intercept the individual trying to exit the premises, but cannot. I however do have such opportunity... Am I called upon to act immediately, forcefully stop the individual and/or take the host from them? To what extent am I called to physically restrain or disable the thief in order to do so? Obviously, local legal implications could come into play and I could theoretically face charges if getting too forceful - however, should I do anything physically possible to protect the most blessed sacrament, even at my own legal peril, or is this simply not my responsibility as part of the laity?
