Rear end/diff swap for gas’s mileage on camper van?
Post Body

We bought a 1996 Chevy G30 (extended body) Class B van. I’m totally in love with it and am building out the inside. It’s got a 7.4L 454 V8. I have to press the brake fairly hard to keep this thing from driving forward. I get the sense it might be geared for towing? I’m not sure. Either way, she’s a thirsty girl (duh). It’s on 265/75r16s with a 2” lift.

I’m wondering if I can do a rear end diff swap to make it just a little better on highway mileage which is mostly where we’ll be driving it.

Anyone have any experience with this GM rear end and advice on getting a little better mileage? (I know, it’s still a 454…)

Thanks!
