Stiff Steering & Odd Noise
Post Body

Two weeks ago, I had my serpentine belt replaced. Less than a week later, I noticed my car sounding weird when driving and turning. I noticed spots under my car and quickly realized I have a power steering leak.

The next day, I went to drive it and the power steering fluid was empty, so I walked to go get power steering fluid to fill it up before taking it to the shop. When I took it to the shop, they diagnosed it and discovered I had a huge tear in my power steering pump and it was pretty much losing fluid the second I put it in. They advised me to replace the power steering pump, rack and pinion.

I did so and finally got my car back on Friday. As I drove it around town, I noticed when I turned at slow speeds or when parked, the steering became very stiff. It was hard to get it in the garage. By Saturday morning, I noticed there were spots under my car again and it sounded rough when driving it. I took it back to the shop and they said one of the hoses ended up being faulty, so they would replace it for free and that should take care of everything.

Last night when trying to park it in my garage, the steering started getting very stiff again. I noticed when parked, if I moved the steering wheel all the way to the left or right, there was a rattling noise. Other than the stiff steering that seems to happen off and on, and the random rattling noise when turning the steering wheel all the way to one direction, it seems fine.

When I went to work this morning, there were no spots under my car, but the steering continues to get stiff off and on. I called the shop and they said this was normal.

I have attached a video of the sound and the steering wheel getting stiff. I drive a 2005 Ford Five Hundred. The noise I am talking about is the one after the steering wheel is turned all the way. Not sure what the other noise was that my phone was picking up.

Is this actually normal? Any idea what could be causing this?
