Would you buy a 3 cylinder vehicle?

Like in those new Buick Envistas? Has the technology improved so much that the 3 cylinder is the new 4 cylinder? I note that the Cadillac CTS has a 4 cylinder that cranks out as much HP as the older 6. Is this the natural progression, that a 3 can now do what a 4 could previously do? And would you put your money on it?
