I have a 2014 crv exl awd with 260,000 km on it. Ive replaced the vtc twice now once 3 years ago and again in September due to grinding on startup. My power has seemed off since then when accelerating to pass or going up hills, as though I am missing a gear or in the wrong gear. (Its an automatic) this car has always burned oil and I have had to stay ontop of it by checking an topping up every couple weeks.
I have definitely run it low on oil in early days but alsways get changes every 6000km and keep it topped up.
My mechanic. Who I trust fully now says its showing a code, that means either low oil or the timing chain is stretched and needs to be replaced. Well the oil change was just done so that makes him think the chain is stretched and needs to be replaced.
When I read online some say the vtc and chain should be done at same time. Has anyone had experience with this or familiar with why the timing chain would stretch? How bad would it be to not replace this right away? Hes saying should be done sooner than later but also its a big job so pricey...
