2012 Chevy equinox immobilizer problems

So we did some work to my wife's equinox, swapped out the starter to be specific, but at some point the alarm went off. Now it's not starting, and the security system light is on whenever I try to start it. Everything lights up, but the moment you turn the key to crank it, everything dies except for the security light. How can I fix this without going to Chevy or giving my firstborn to a mechanic?
