Hello,
I have a family friend (friend of my mother's) who is eccentric and has many health issues. I've helped him for years with various challenges in his life, and he's said he wants me to be his executor of his "estate" when he eventually passes.
To my knowledge, he has informed his bank and supplied all of my details, as well as information for a few other people he'd like to share with. I have all of his banking details, and information for the rest of the concerned parties.
I've tried for quite some time to convince him to speak with a lawyer to get more of a concrete will, rather than trust his bank or building management to follow his wishes.
He's finally agreed, but I'm not clear on how we should proceed. He's basically entrusted me to follow up on his behalf because he has a heart condition and gets wildly stressed out over the smallest items.
I'll be looking locally in NYC for a legal contact but would also consider an online solution if there's one that's reputable.
What should I be looking for exactly? An estate lawyer? He is a NYC resident and to my knowledge he has an amount of money in his savings, but beyond that, it's just the items in his apartment, no real estate, cars, etc.
Thanks for any suggestions and information you can share
