Around 10 ish years ago, I was in a car accident with my friend driving and I was the passenger. The car was totaled, but both of us were ok that day. The day after I woke up very sick with a fever and throwing up, so I went to the ER. I was just sick from the shock of it being the first car accident I had ever been in. And whiplash.
Around a year later, I was on bad terms with my parents and moved out. When I came back, my mom told me that they (I) received a small settlement, around $2000 and that the friends insurance paid my hospital bills. By this time, I had turned 18.
My parents never spoke of the settlement money again and I’ve never asked because I want to avoid any kind of confrontation. I’ve never needed to borrow money for any reason, and have never asked to so I’ve never seen any of that money.
My question is, was I ever entitled to any of that money? Or was is solely for my parents because I was underage at the time?
To avoid any confusion, the settlement sum was not for hospital bills or towards a car. It wasn’t my vehicle and the friends insurance took care of the hospital bills separately.
Thanks
