I'm looking for an apartment near Göppingen and have checked one out today. It's really good, the price is okay at least for the current market, the kitchen is included for free etc. etc.
But the one thing I'm really afraid of is that there are no radiators there but instead there's a "Gas Ofen" in the hall that is connected with vents to the living room and the bedroom. All I saw inside was a pipe and a valve which left me even more confused. The old tenant mentioned it's fine and that it doesn't get cold in the winter (he was the one giving me the apartment tour). I'm kinda really suspicious of it because not only it looks like it was hidden on purpose on the listing pictures, but also when I sent a message to the landlord asking to explain how it works, he said he would do it when we already agree on everything and are going to sign the contract. The thing is, I've been looking for an apartment since July and I've only gotten 2 or 3 visits since then. I guess I'm getting a bit desperate
It also has a boiler for hot water in the bathroom but that's nothing new.
But I'm still confused as I've never seen anything like this. What do you guys think? Should I be wary of it or should I just bite the bullet and accept it?
Edit: pic of the oven from the living room
I've lived with an similar heater (oil instead of gas, but same concept).
These can occur in older houses. Older houses also tend to have badly insulated windows, so it could get could from the window.
If you have a bigger room it can happen that the area close to the oven is at comfy 22 degrees, even more
And the area around the window could be around 18/19 degrees, which can be a bit chilly.
Also, you only passively heat the other rooms with those air vents. You can't just heat the bathroom or the bedroom without heating the living room (where it's usually located).
Overall, it's less comfortable than modern heating systems where the heat is created where the cold gets into the apartment (Windows).
