Why does god answer some prayers and not others?

Why would an all loving powerful god choose to bless you with a job you’ve been praying for but ignore a kid with cancers prayer to be healed? Why would he answer someone else’s prayer for a new car but ignore the prayer from an abused child? And if you accept that he picks and chooses, why are you okay with such a cruel god?
