It's bad enough that asian parenting isn't the best kind out there, throw in alcoholism, religious fanaticism and narcissistic personality disorder and it becomes one of the most toxic environments one can live in. For me personally, I had to go through PTSD with the experience. On top of it all, looking back, I recall on top of only getting 3 or 4 hours of sleep a night and I remember only getting 1 or ½ meals a day here in the U.S. starting from the age of 9 all the way up till college. My parents yelling, screaming and cussing each other out everyday is considered normal. And when they can't see eye to eye (which is everyday even till this day), they often used me as an outlet for their frustrations in life. The worst part is that asians don't have a concept of mental health and seeing a therapist/psychologist is considered taboo. With that kind of toxic environment, at the age of 37, I find myself having to find ways to move past the psycholigical damage they caused (severe insomnia and anxiety, which is something I've seen my fellow asians suffer from as well because of their families). Anyone else had to deal with this kind of environment with their asian parents?
